Save Our Schools NJ

YOU ARE MAKING THIS HAPPEN!
PLEASE CALL YOUR ASSEMBLY MEMBERS

Thank you to everyone who came out on Tuesday night to show support for reforming New Jersey’s broken charter schools law! More than 500 people attended the three rallies in Highland Park, Millburn and South Brunswick. We very much appreciate Senators Buono, Codey, Greenstein and Turner; Assembly members Barnes, Coutinho, Diegnan and Jasey; and the many local leaders who were there! You can find articles, videos and photographs from the rallies on the Save Our Schools NJ Facebook page.

Thank you also for calling the legislative leaders to ask them to post these bills for a full vote. Your efforts have already been successful in the Assembly. We found out last night that A3852, which requires local approval before the establishment of a new charter school, will be voted on by the full Assembly on Wednesday, June 29th. A3356, which requires charter schools to be financially and educationally transparent and accountable and increases the likelihood that charter school students will demographically represent those of their sending communities, will also be brought up for a vote by the full Assembly next week.

Please call your two Assembly members on Monday and ask them to support these bills! You can find their contact information by looking up your town here. Phone calls are much more effective than e-mails and only take a minute to do. If you reach an answering machine, leave your name and phone number and ask for a call-back with where the legislators stand on these bills. Then please let us know what they said at info@saveourschoolsnj.org

The next step after these bills pass the Assembly is to get them brought up for a vote in the NJ Senate. We will send an update early next week regarding how you can help to make that happen.

Thank you for all that you are doing. It is having a huge impact!!
