Reject Destructive Changes to New Jersey's Charter School Regulations

via: Edison Township School District

Urgent! Your Immediate Support is Needed!

Above is a link for a petition that Save Our Schools NJ has posted a couple days ago — to fight some very scary regulatory changes proposed by Acting Commissioner Cerf to expand his unilateral and arbitrary authority to expand and close charter schools with no chance for districts (or even the charter school) to respond. Many of the regulatory changes go beyond what is considered legal and some may be challenged in court should they pass. But our job is to stop them from passing. The first public hearing for these changes is June 6th – just a few days away and we need to deliver a strong message with thousands of signatures.

THE WORST PART OF THE REGULATORY CHANGES ESTABLISHES THE CONDITIONS HE REQUIRES TO OPEN VIRTUAL CHARTER SCHOOLS IN NJ THAT COULD DRAW STUDENTS FROM ANY DISTRICT. THESE SCHOOLS WILL BE RUN BY AN OUT OF STATE FOR-PROFIT COMPANY WITH NO CONTROL OVER TEACHER QUALITY (NEVER MIND TEACHER LOCATION – AND IT SEEMS MANY ARE OVERSEAS). THE STUDIES ON THESE SCHOOLS SHOW POOR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF STUDENTS AND QUESTIONABLE FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT, YET CERF IS READY TO WELCOME THEM TO NJ.

Please sign this petition and share it in the next few days. Time is short and need is urgent.

As always, many thanks for your support!
