Charter School Reform Comes to Trenton

The Assembly Education Committee will consider and vote on two charter school reform bills this Thursday, February 2nd at 2 p.m. in committee room 11, on the 4th floor of the State House Annex.

If you support reforming the state's broken charter school law to give sending communities more control over the establishment of new charter schools, please come to Thursday's hearing. It is important to attend even if you can only stay for an hour.

The committee will hear testimony and vote on:

Assembly bill 1877 (bill A3852/S2243 last session), which would require local approval before the establishment of new charter schools, and
Assembly bill 2147 (bills A3356/S3005/S3001 last session), which would increase charter school educational and financial accountability and transparency and address the fact that NJ charter school students do not represent the demographics of their sending districts.

You will have the option to speak during the hearing, but your presence alone will communicate a powerful message to the lawmakers -- that voters support these reforms and are paying attention.

The State House Annex is located at 125 West State Street in Trenton. Free parking is available underneath the State House. The garage entrance is on West State Street.
