Principals February Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Believe it or not, today is the 90th day of school. Where does the time go? We have so much more to accomplish, we have only just begun.

January has come and gone with little weather drama. The children have been out for recess and enjoying the mild temperatures. Please be sure that they have all the necessary outer garments to keep them warm on the days that they go out to play.

Our annual Reading Challenge began and is on a snail’s pace. I am hoping that the children start/continue reading so they can earn a very different prize this time around. Details are being worked out and hopefully by Friday I can announce it to the students at our assembly. Please encourage your child/ren to read. The more they read the easier it will become.

Our second grade demonstrated their knowledge of what they learned this quarter in Science. The Penguin Pandemonium showed off their mastery of the unit. The children did a fine job and were very excited to be recognized for the fruits of their labor. Thanks to the second grade teachers, the students will remember the day fondly.

February is a short and excessively quick month. With conferences on February 14, 16 and 21st, the month will fly by. Remember that each of those days are 1:30 dismissal days. If you have not received paperwork to schedule conferences, please call the office.

The PTO and School sponsored Family Reading Night and Scholastic Book Fair will be on Thursday, February 9th at 6:30. Join us to see how much fun reading can be. Ask the office for the flyer if you haven’t received one.

School is closed Friday, February 17th and February 20th for Teacher Professional Development and President’s Day. Enjoy the four day weekend and have your kids turn off their video games and read. J

In a joint effort with Chartwells, the district’s food service company, we applied for the Fuel Up to Play 60 grant from the National Dairy Council. If we are awarded the grant our school can receive over a $1000 to use towards sports equipment to supplement the equipment that we already have for our Physical Education classes and for the after school Sports Club. Many of the requirements for healthy eating and living are already implemented in our school. I am continuing to emphasize no sugar or no sugar as the first ingredient in treats for birthdays and celebrations and healthy snacks each day. Please remember this when planning your child’s class treat for his/her birthday.

Take a look at the attached calendar of events for all school and after school activities. Have a great month. I am looking forward to seeing you at conferences.

Sincerely yours,

Rosemary Schutz
