Dear Lindeneau families,
On March 10th, there will be a vote for the bond referendum which affects the overcrowding in Edison schools.
Luckily, Lindeneau is not one of those heavily overcrowded schools in our district. However, the bond referendum will still impact our school community.
I recently attended a meeting with the superintendent, Dr. Bragen, and he shared interesting facts that may not have been readily shared. Here are the highlights I have gathered:
- Currently, the capital budget earmarked for schools are spent on alleviating overcrowding in the schools that need it. If the bond is passed, this frees up the budget to enhance the other schools not directly affected by the bond.
- The superintendent has vowed to have all day kindergarten beginning two years from this September (2022).
- They are looking at gaining additional classrooms either by taking back the former Stelton Rec center (after complete renovations), partnering with St. Matthews, St. Helenas on the North side , and/or Middlesex County College.
- There is no place in Edison which would allow enough footage to build another high school. A lot of the open space is either protected by open air practices or are considered wetlands. But they are still looking at all options.
The Edison school system is sought after because our students do well and our system is a strong one. Our property values will remain high as long as our school system remains strong.
If you read social media posts, people are very vocal on the referendum. I am not here to tell you which way to vote because that is only your right. I will encourage you to vote for what you feel is right. Polls are open from 12pm to 8pm.
You can also visit https://www.abrighteredison.com/ to find out more information on the referendum or I would encourage you to ask questions if you are unsure. Dr. Bragen has said to email him with any questions as well.
Regardless, please vote this Tuesday, March 10th. It does make a real difference.
Sincerely,
Chris Biskupek
